Restore a portable bundle
Verify and restore an encrypted filing without confusing it with the original workspace record.
Who can perform the task
An authorized signed-in user with the bundle, passphrase, and permission to introduce its data into the target environment.
Before you begin
Confirm the source, custody, expected filing identity, target environment, taxonomy availability, and restore authorization. Scan transferred files using your approved process. Never ask support to receive the passphrase.

- Review organization, filing, version, and conflict warnings before continuing.
- Confirm the restore and wait for the complete result.
- Open the restored records and verify identity, values, evidence, and validation state.
Detailed guidance
- On Filings, expand Restore encrypted filing bundle.
- Choose the
.sgbundlefile. - Enter its passphrase.
- Select Verify and restore.
- Wait while the application authenticates and validates the bundle.
- Open the restored filing when prompted.
Expected result
A verified filing is restored and opened. Invalid, corrupted, or wrongly decrypted bundles fail without a partial restore.
Restore requires both the encrypted file and its separately controlled passphrase.
How to verify
Compare entity, period, taxonomy, jurisdiction, status, representative values, evidence, audit history, and artifact references with the backup record. Run validation.
Common problems
Wrong passphrases and modified bundles intentionally produce verification failure. Check keyboard layout and the exact approved secret. There is no passphrase-reset mechanism.
Repeated restore attempts are throttled across application instances. If the service reports that restore is busy or temporarily unavailable, keep the file and passphrase in the form, wait for the stated retry interval, and try once. Do not repeatedly submit the same bundle.
Data consequences
Restore creates data in the target environment. Check for an existing filing of the same entity and period to avoid operational confusion, and follow policy before deleting either copy.
Product limitations
Restore verifies the portable format; it does not prove the backup was the latest filing state or that external submission evidence remains current.
